Format
Match play over 18 holes (stipulated round as per the rules) in conformity with the rules of the R&A and USGA, as applicable to match play. All players should be aware of the differences in the rules between stroke play and match play, and that under Rule 33-1 combining both formats is not permitted.

Play will be from the regular tees, unless both players agree to play from different tees.

Handicaps
Players will play off full handicaps in accordance with the guidelines of the Congu handicap system.

Draw
The draw for round one was based on 16 seeded players from 2009 Order of Merit drawn against 16 random opponents.

Time and Venue
The lower number player will propose a time and venue for the match. This will apply for all rounds of the competition. If the proposed date is unsuitable then it is the responsibility of the opponents to come to an amicable agreement that will complete the match before the stipulated deadline. In the event that a match cannot be completed within the set time, then the committee may extend the time, if it does not disrupt other matches. If the match still cannot be concluded then the committee, after consideration of the circumstances, may designate one player to go through to the next round or exceptionally disqualify both players from the competition. If one of the players is a member of the committee then he will be excluded from the decision making process. Matches may be played at Wanderers events, however players should be aware of Rule 33-1, which states that combining stroke play with match play “is not practicable and is not permitted.”

if players are not able to agree on a venue within the deadline date for the round, they must agree to play their match at the Wanderers home course, Vintage, before the deadline for the round (not necessarily at our medal event) or face disqualification.

Note: If a player purposely plays a match knowing that he/she will be unable to compete in future rounds, he/she will automatically be disqualified and his/her opponent will proceed to the next round.

Procedures in event of a Halved Match
In the event that a match ends up all square after the stipulated 18 holes, then the following procedures will be applied in the order given, to determine the winner:

The count back rule for deciding squared matches has been rescinded. The options for deciding the winner of squared matches follow. Note that the players must decide before the match which option will be used to decide the winner if the match is squared.
a. Play extra hole(s) if course permits (unlikely option)
b. Play another game, if it can be arranged within the time frame for the round.
c. Play 9 holes on the putting green, with honors to start decided by a coin toss. Play on the putting green to proceed according to the rules of golf.
d. Coin toss to decide winner.

Disputes
Any disputes should be resolved before the end of the match. As it may not be possible to have a referee with each match, unresolved disputes must be referred to the committee as soon as possible after the match. The decision of the committee will be final.

Results
The match result should be given to the Honorary Secretary as soon as possible after completion of the match.
